Google Fiber is coming to 18 cities in four metro areas: Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, and Raleigh-Durham

Google announced its Google Fiber service is coming to 18 new cities across four metro areas: Atlanta, Charlotte, Nashville, andRaleigh-Durham. This is in addition to the existing Google Fiber areas of Kansas City, Provo, and Austin.

That’s not all. Google says it is still exploring the option of bringing Google Fiber to five additional metro areas: Phoenix, Portland, Salt Lake City, San Antonio, and San Jose. These potential cities will be getting news about whether they made the cut “later this year.”

While the announcement may be official today, Google has been working with city leaders over the past year to prepare. Here is how the company outlined its plans:

Our next step is to work with cities to create a detailed map of where we can put our thousands of miles of fiber, using existing infrastructure such as utility poles and underground conduit, and making sure to avoid things like gas and water lines. Then a team of surveyors and engineers will hit the streets to fill in missing details. Once we’re done designing the network (which we expect to wrap up in a few months), we’ll start construction.
Google has also been very busy with growing Fiber in its existing cities. In November, for example, it promised free Internet to Austin’s public housing residents, and kicked off its Google Fiber for Small Business option in select areas of Kansas City.

As it moves forward, Google’s pitch has naturally been transforming from “this is an experimental project” to “gigabit broadband is the future.” Today, the company referenced last week’s U.S. President Obama’s State of the Union speech calling for faster networks, research showing gigabit networks are contributing billions of dollars in economic growth, and U.S. communities in general demanding more speed for their homes and businesses.

Rumors of Google’s plan to expand its Google Fiber service to more cities have been ongoing since at least February 2014. In fact, they continued right up until yesterday, when The Wall Street Journal reported on the upcoming news.

Career website Glassdoor today released its report on the “Best Jobs in America for 2015.” In the list of the top 25 jobs, 10 of the jobs were in tech, more than any other industry.

Glassdoor’s list is ordered by a job score the firm gives each position. This score (based on a 5-point scale ranging from 1.0 as very low to 5.0 as very high) is determined by three key factors weighted equally: earning potential, career opportunities rating, and number of open job listings.

Without further ado, here is the list of the top 10 U.S. tech jobs:

Software Engineer
Database Administrator
Product Manager
Data Scientist
Solutions Architect
QA Engineer
Network Engineer
IT Project Manager
Mobile Developer
Sales Engineer
Only the first three tech jobs placed in the top 10 of the full list. Software engineer was #1 in tech, and it placed second overall. Database administrator was second in tech, but seventh overall, and product manager was third in tech, but eighth overall. Software engineer jobs were found to be in highest demand, while solutions architect positions had the highest average annual base salary among tech jobs.

Glassdoor’s report is based on what employees anonymously say about their employer. In this case, job titles that were considered had to have at least 75 salary reports and at least 75 career opportunity ratings shared by U.S.-based employees over the past year. Job openings per job title (normalized to account for similar titles for the same position) were counted by adding up the total number posted on Glassdoor over the past three months.

Here is the full list of 25 best jobs in the U.S.:

Physician Assistant: 4.8 job score, 45,484 job openings, $111,376 average base salary, 3.5 career opportunities rating

Wearable apple technology could open up new and improved advertising channels.

Advertisements are being able to factor in the things we have been looking at online, social status, income, and countless other variables – but do you ever wonder if they were also able to pick up on your mood? Apple has submitted a patent for just such a service. The service would be able to take advantage not only of your desires, but also your emotional state.

The major factors that determines how successful an ad is: include location, time of day, current activity and mood; all of which are now able to be volunteered when you strap on the latest piece of wearable technology. The wearable piece could measure the heart rate, blood pressure, adrenaline level, body temperature and verbal cues in particular in which could help Apple to determine your state of mind.

The wearable technology could provide insight into the type of content you’re viewing, which applications you use and when, what kind of music you listen to for certain tasks, also your interaction on social media networks. When all of this information is put together, it allows for real-time advertising choices that increase the likelihood of you buying something that would otherwise be completely unappealing.

The patent also covers privacy and methods to keep it intact, such as mood profiles that only last a certain amount of time, and the storage of data according to existing privacy policies and user agreements. There would also be the usual “opt in” or “opt out” for you to choose from, which keeps the control firmly in your hands.

Thinking about the adidas Mutombo 2013 Release, and what I was doing when they came out 20 years ago –

In January of 1992, Reservoir Dogs appeared at the Sundance Film Festival, by first-time writer-director Quentin Tarantino. The Washington Redskins won superbowl XXVI and Mike Tyson went to trial for rape (he would later be convicted and sentenced to 10 years). The Lakers retire Magic Johnson’s #32 uniform. At the age of 16, Tiger became the youngest PGA golfer in 35 years.

In February, President Bush and Yeltsin proclaimed a formal end to the cold war. A few months later, violent riots erupt in the streets of Los Angeles after four police officers are acquitted in the brutal beating of Rodney King. Clinton and Gore were elected and Democrats kept control of Congress.

After 20 years American’s saw Jhonny Carson’s last appearnce as host of Tonight Show, and watch the final episodes of Growing Pains and Night Court.

And though, IBM announced a loss of 5 Billion, a text-based Web browser is made available to the public, and compact discs surpass cassette tapes as preferred medium for recorded music.

Madonna signed a $60 Million deal with Time Warner and Natalie Cole’s ‘Unforgettable’ won Grammy’s for Record, Album, and Song of the year.

For me, I might not have remember any of that happened specifically in 1992 if it weren’t for Wikipedia. What I wont forget are the songs that were on the radio and television-

According to Billboard, there were some great songs on the charts that year, what were you doing when these were playing?
