Italian water transportation company Jet Capsule unveils their latest seafaring concept, the “UFO”. Standing for unidentified floating object, the saucer-like unit is an energy autonomous vessel capable of estimated speeds of up to three knots (3.5mph). “UFO” measures 12.5 meters in diameter, and uses various systems to take advantage of all natural elements. The floating object includes two habitable areas – other than the outer deck. A main level area houses the kitchen, and a floor access point connects to a sub-level bathroom and underwater viewing area. Jet Capsule is currently seeking investors to develop a working “UFO” prototype.

UFO is a living floating house which can move around the world with leisurely maximum speed of 3.5 knots (6.5 km/h, 4 mph), using a waterjet-propelled Torqeedo Deep Blue 1800 electric motor.

This motor is connected to a battery that draws energy generated from 40 sq. m (430 sq. ft.) of solar panels in a closable lid atop the structure.
Additional energy sources can be provided through optional wind and water turbines located on the top and below the main disc of the UFO, respectively, creating enough power to operate the home and motor.

A water generator would be used for converting rain or seawater to fresh drinking water, as well as watering a vegetable garden located on a deck that encircles the structure and measures 12.5 m (41 ft) in diameter.

Two half-spherical shells of fiberglass make up the two stories of the interior housing, with flexible floor plans for various configurations.

The spherical-shaped home will consist of a transformable kitchen and dining/living area on a 20-sq. m (215-sq. ft.) top level, with stairs leading down to a 10-sq. m (107-sq. ft.) submerged lower level with bathroom and bedroom surrounded by a large window for viewing sea life.

To keep the craft stable, the UFO uses a special elastic anchor system. “The main structure of the floating object can be aligned with the compass, keeping the position angle oriented on the desired cardinal direction, even in rough sea conditions.

When taking a photo, the camera’s whopping 16 different lenses fire a once, piecing together a massive 52-megapixel image, and it’s all controlled through a user-friendly operating system and touchscreen. The first-of-its-kind camera is now available for pre-order, with plans to deliver during the summer of 2016.

Some time ago we’ve already shown you very interesting concept of snowmobile concept. And here is another one – RDSV – Rapid Deployment Snow Vehicle. This concept was created by industrial designer from Buenos Aires, Argentina – Juan Garcia Mansilla. As designer says “The RDSV is a 2 seater high speed vehicle for use in any polar environment. It would aptly serve polar exploration, rescue missions, medical emergencies or even sport applications, basically anything that requires high speeds through a polar environment. The whole idea started with the traction system, something that could allow high speeds across Antarctica but could also climb up a mountain for an avalanche rescue operation. Then the whole vehicle was built around it. RDSV features an adaptive traction system that allows for an effective displacement over both ice/hard snow or deep snow. Each wheel is made up by twelve individual units, each with two different paddles: a small one (for hard surfaces) and a big one (for deep snow). Depending on the terrain, each unit rotates accordingly to expose the desired paddle.” Also dont’ forget to check the video.

Netflix: The Start up Story

The concept for Netflix arose during the very early days of DVDs. Only about 2% of US households had DVD players, but we saw that if the market grew to about 20% of households, we could have a really successful company. (Eventually more than 95% of households would come to own DVD players.)

Now from the very beginning of Netflix––and the reason the company was named Netflix and not DVD by Mail––there was our belief that the marketplace for digital content would move to streaming. The idea that this content wouldn’t need to be couriered, but instead would travel over the air. And that’s just where media went. In our Startup Story featuring Reed, you’ll see it certainly wasn’t a cakewalk when it came time to battle the industry giant Blockbuster Video in the emerging battle for digital supremacy.

Google’s YouTube division signaled a couple of weeks ago that it was taking gaming and livestreaming more seriously when it signed gaming personality Geoff Keighley ...

Google’s YouTube division signaled a couple of weeks ago that it was taking gaming and livestreaming more seriously when it signed gaming personality Geoff Keighley to livestream a bunch of game announcements at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), the big video game trade show. And on the eve of E3, Google is announcing that it will launch a YouTube Gaming app and web site as another way for gamers to stay up to speed with all things gaming.

Google says this is all about keeping gamers satisfied. But we also know that it wants to take on Amazon, which has pushed far into gamer’s hearts with its acquisition of Twitch. Twitch’s gameplay livestreaming service has garnered more than 100 million monthly active users, and YouTube has taken notice.

“Today, the gaming world is much more diverse than the one I grew up with, and the community has created new formats that have made gaming more collaborative and interactive,” said Alan Joyce, product manager of YouTube Gaming, in a blog post today. “On YouTube, gaming has spawned entirely new genres of videos, from let’s plays, walkthroughs, and speedruns to cooking and music videos. Now, it’s our turn to return the favor with something built just for gamers.”

He said that YouTube Gaming will keep players connected to the games, players, and culture that matters to them. It will have videos, livestreams, and the biggest community of gamers on the web — all in one place.

He said, “YouTube Gaming is built to be all about your favorite games and gamers, with more videos than anywhere else. From ‘Asteroids’ to ‘Zelda,’ more than 25,000 games will each have their own page, a single place for all the best videos and live streams about that title. You’ll also find channels from a wide array of game publishers and YouTube creators.”

You can keep up with your games and channels pretty easily, just by adding a game to your collection for quick access whenever you want to check up on the latest videos. You can subscribe to a channel and get a notification as soon as a livestream starts. And when you search for something like “call,” you’re likely to get “Call of Duty,” not “Call Me Maybe.”

YouTube Gaming will be available this summer, starting in the U.S. and U.K.

Some of us don’t want to share portrait and square cropped videos all the time. Crazy, huh? The mobile-centric video formats have been championed by Vine, Instagram and a whole host of live-streaming apps, so it was hardly a surprise to see Twitter follow suit when it launched in-app video recording earlier this year. Landscape videos still have their place though, so the company is now relenting and offering the aspect ratio inside its apps. So when you’re scrolling through your feed and inspiration strikes, you can hit the camera button, flip your phone sideways and record a regular video for your followers. We’re not sure why the option wasn’t available from the start, but hey, at least it’s here now.

For at least one company, the Internet of Things would more appropriately be called the Internet of Everything.

Or Evrythng, as the vowel-averse company prefers to spell its name. Today, this maker of the Smart Products Platform announced it has rounded up $7.5 million in new funding so it can get everything in order.

The platform — one of a number being offered for universal connectivity — helps product makers connect their wares to the booming Web.

More importantly, it is designed to tap data from the product and from the maker to track supply chains, distinguish fake products, issue updates, customize how it’s used, and more.

It’s a vision that includes, well, almost everything. CEO and founder Niall Murphy told me via email, for instance, that he envisions “a connected washing machine [that] gets smarter by talking to the packs of washing powder that go into it,” to help guide the running time, speed, and other factors that govern a washing load.

The company originated from a discussion in a coffee shop between Murphy and now-CMO Andy Hobsbawm in 2009.

“I had the idea that every physical object in the world — from the cars we drive, the clothes we wear, the beers we drink, and homes we live in — would have an addressable, real-time presence on the Web,” Murphy said. Originally, the thought was to build a Facebook for all the non-people out there, to create new experiences and efficiencies.

To get there, Murphy said, his company is busily crafting partnerships with chipset companies like Marvell, Intel, and Broadcom and with ones that make RFID, QR, and other smart packaging tech, like Avery Dennison and Thinfilm.

With Google Cardboard, you can experience virtual reality at low-cost: exhibit cultural artifacts, drive through Tuscany on a spring afternoon or even fly around the world for a completely immersive viewing pleasure. To use the hardware, it’s a matter of sliding your Android device into a DIY Cardboard viewer for virtual Google experiences. Augmented reality created through a series of interactive animations allow the user to travel remotely from the comfort of their homes or offices.

American toy manufacturer Mattel collaborated to deliver that virtual environment to its youngest customers. The classic View-Master — the handheld photo viewer to display custom images from corresponding color slide reels — has gotten a digital makeover.

Kids will replace the thin cardboard disks with their Android devices to view 3D-projected content, which Mattel believes “extends and enhances the play experience allowing kids to feel like they are immersed in an interactive and imaginative learning environment.”

The new View-Master integrates Google Cardboard technology, but keeps similar design concepts of the iconic toy. The vintage tools with a modern treatment has the power to capture nostalgia for adults while engaging kids in an immersive learning environment. Users look through the finder of the digital View-Master to see images from movies and TV shows, famous destinations, nature, cultural landmarks and more.

For instance, kids select from different subjects in the “Experience Reels,” and sport the hardware to transport to a far-off destination. Users can travel to San Francisco, tour the Bay by boat, walk across the Golden Gate bridge and learn about the history of Alcatraz from their living room through new age elements such as light enhancement, animation and sound. Mattel is also developing several more experiences for launch, including “dinosaur and solar system experience reels.”

The developers plans to republish old View-Master content, as well as develop unique content to better suit the digitally-entranced audience.

The View-Master will work with a custom Mattel App, and up to 200 Google Cardboard apps, offering younger generations a novel opportunity to experience great inventions of the past.
